2024 STUDENT Awards

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Entrants must be Student ASLA members. Select one official entrant for student team entries. Materials in the submission PDF must not reveal the names of the entrant and/or landscape architects, firms, other designers or students. Previous winning entries are ineligible. All submissions will be retained in the Alabama Chapter archives.

REQUIRED SUBMISSION MATERIALS

ENTRY FORM — Click “Award Submission” to complete form

SINGLE PROJECT FILE PDF — To be uploaded at the end of the form. Include Project Name and Award Category only in file name. Each PDF should not exceed 100MB and contain:

PROJECT FACT SHEETOne-sided 8 ½” x 11” sheet that clearly describes the following in minimum 10 pt. type:

Project name and location

Project requirements, scope and size

Site and context investigation

Design program, design intent

Materials and installation methods, environmental impact and concerns (if applicable)

Role of student(s), landscape architect, owner, and other participants.

Special factors such as the project's uniqueness or unusual problems.

Other key information specific to the entry category (see below)

TOTAL OF 12 DIGITAL IMAGES Image 1 should be the project plan (if applicable). Key the images to the overall PROJECT FACT SHEET or include a one-page list with a brief description of each image. Note: No references to any firm or designer on any images.

ALL STUDENT ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 5:00PM — FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2024.

  • General Design: Site-specific works of landscape architecture.

  • Residential: Site-specific works of landscape architecture for residential use.

  • Urban Design: Projects that activate networks of spaces that mediate between social equity, economic viability, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and beautiful place-making in the public and private realm.

  • Analysis and Planning: Recognizes the wide variety of professional activities that lead to, guide, and evaluate landscape architecture design.

  • Communications: Achievements in communicating landscape architecture works, techniques, technologies, history, or theory, and the lesson value to an intended audience.

  • Research: Research that identifies and investigates challenges posed in landscape architecture, providing results that advance the body of knowledge for the profession.

  • Community Service: Pro bono community service by students demonstrating sound principles and values of landscape architecture.

  • Collaboration: Collaborative work by landscape architecture students with students from allied or complementary disciplines, including those in other design fields, business, and the natural and social sciences, for example.

AWARDS JURY & EVENT

A jury of Alabama professionals will bestow Honor Awards and Merit Awards. 

Winners will be presented with award certificates at the April 19th ceremony.
